Editorial Policy

Our Mission

The Pundit is an independent news and analysis platform dedicated to rigorous reporting, critical inquiry, and informed public debate. We aim to re-center underrepresented regions—particularly the Middle East—as subjects of analysis rather than objects of external narration, and to provide readers with context-rich, evidence-based journalism that informs policy, public understanding, and democratic engagement.

Editorial Independence

The Pundit operates with full editorial independence.

Our editorial decisions are made without interference from political actors, governments, donors, or advertisers. While we may receive funding through grants or partnerships, such support does not influence our coverage, framing, or conclusions.

We maintain a strict separation between editorial content and any form of sponsored or external material.

Standards of Reporting

We adhere to the highest standards of journalistic integrity:

  • Accuracy: All reporting is based on verified facts, corroborated sources, and credible data.
  • Verification: We rely on primary sources wherever possible, including official documents, firsthand accounts, and open-source intelligence (OSINT).
  • Context: We prioritize depth over speed, ensuring that events are situated within their historical, political, and economic contexts.
  • Clarity: We write with precision and restraint, avoiding sensationalism or speculative claims.

Errors, when identified, are corrected promptly and transparently.

Use of Sources

We follow clear sourcing principles:

  • On-the-record sources are preferred and prioritized.
  • Anonymous sources are used only when necessary, particularly in contexts involving risk to individuals, and are subject to strict editorial scrutiny.
  • Multiple-source verification is required for sensitive or high-impact claims.
  • Digital verification: We employ advanced verification techniques, including geolocation, metadata analysis, and cross-platform corroboration, especially in conflict reporting.

Fact-Checking and OSINT

Fact-checking is central to our work.

Drawing on methodologies developed within networks such as Arabi Facts Hub, we integrate open-source intelligence (OSINT) techniques into our editorial process. This includes:

  • Verification of images and videos
  • Tracking coordinated disinformation campaigns
  • Analysis of digital behavior and network patterns

We treat misinformation not only as false content but as a systemic phenomenon requiring structured investigation.

Opinion and Analysis

The Pundit publishes both reporting and analysis.

  • News reporting is strictly factual and neutral in tone.
  • Analysis and opinion pieces are clearly labeled and grounded in evidence, expertise, and reasoned argument.
  • Contributors are expected to disclose any relevant affiliations or conflicts of interest.

We do not publish content that incites hatred, promotes violence, or relies on dehumanizing language.

Ethical Commitments

Our editorial work is guided by the following principles:

  • Human dignity: We avoid language or framing that dehumanizes individuals or communities.
  • Do no harm: We assess the potential consequences of publication, particularly in conflict or authoritarian contexts.
  • Accountability: We hold power to account while remaining accountable to our readers.
  • Respect for diversity: We seek to amplify a plurality of voices, especially from marginalized communities.

Coverage Priorities

Our reporting focuses on:

  • Politics, governance, and public policy
  • Conflict, security, and international relations
  • Economic developments and structural inequalities
  • Media ecosystems, misinformation, and digital rights
  • Culture, society, and intellectual life

We prioritize stories that are underreported, misunderstood, or misrepresented in mainstream global coverage.

Corrections and Transparency

If an error is identified, we:

  • Correct it promptly
  • Clearly indicate the correction
  • Provide updated and accurate information

Readers are encouraged to report inaccuracies through our contact channels.

Contributor Guidelines

We work with journalists, researchers, and analysts who share our commitment to rigorous and ethical journalism.

Contributors must:

  • Submit original, unpublished work
  • Adhere to our verification and sourcing standards
  • Maintain clarity, discipline, and analytical depth in writing

Editorial decisions on publication remain at the discretion of The Pundit’s editorial team.

Evolving Policy

This Editorial Policy is a living document. As the media environment evolves—particularly with the rise of artificial intelligence and new forms of information disorder—we continuously refine our standards to uphold credibility, relevance, and public trust.
