Accuracy is the foundation of The Pundit’s journalism. We are committed to ensuring that all information we publish is thoroughly verified, clearly presented, and responsibly contextualized.

Despite rigorous editorial processes, errors may occasionally occur. When they do, we correct them promptly, transparently, and in a manner that preserves the integrity of the public record.

Principles of Correction

Our corrections process is guided by four core principles:

  • Transparency: Corrections are clearly indicated and accessible to readers.
  • Accountability: We acknowledge mistakes without ambiguity or concealment.
  • Promptness: Errors are addressed as quickly as possible once identified.
  • Integrity of the Record: We correct inaccuracies while preserving the original publication history where appropriate.

Types of Corrections

We distinguish between different types of post-publication updates:

1. Corrections

Issued when a factual error affects the accuracy of the reporting.

Examples include:

  • Incorrect names, dates, figures, or locations
  • Misattributed quotes or statements
  • Errors in data interpretation

Action:
The article is updated, and a correction note is appended clearly stating what was wrong and what has been corrected.

2. Clarifications

Issued when the original text is factually correct but may be unclear, misleading, or lacking necessary context.

Action:
The text is refined for clarity, and a note may be added where appropriate.

3. Updates

Issued when new information becomes available after publication that materially enhances or changes the understanding of the story.

Action:
The article is updated to reflect new developments, with a timestamp indicating the update.

4. Editor’s Notes

Used in cases involving significant editorial concerns, disputes, or questions about the integrity of a report.

Action:
A prominent note is added to inform readers of the issue and any actions taken.

How Corrections Are Presented

  • Corrections are appended at the end of the article unless the error is substantial and requires immediate contextual clarification within the text.
  • Each correction note includes:
    • A clear description of the error
    • The corrected information
    • The date of the correction

We do not silently alter substantive facts without disclosure.

Social Media and External Platforms

When an error is identified in content distributed through platforms such as X or Facebook:

  • We correct the information on the original platform where possible
  • If necessary, we issue a follow-up post acknowledging and correcting the error
  • We avoid deleting content unless it is fundamentally misleading or harmful, in which case a clear explanation is provided

Reader Engagement

We encourage readers to report errors or raise concerns.

If you believe an article contains an inaccuracy, please contact us at:
editor@thepundit.org

Please include:

  • The article title and link
  • A description of the issue
  • Supporting evidence or sources, if available

All credible correction requests are reviewed by our editorial team.

Review Process

Upon receiving a correction request:

  1. The editorial team reviews the claim and supporting evidence
  2. Relevant editors and, where appropriate, the original author are consulted
  3. A decision is made based on verification and editorial standards
  4. If warranted, the correction is issued promptly

In complex or sensitive cases, the review may involve additional layers of editorial oversight.

Archival Integrity

We maintain the integrity of our published archive:

  • Substantive corrections are always disclosed
  • In rare cases where an article must be retracted, we do not remove it entirely; instead, we retain a record with a clear retraction notice explaining the reasons

Continuous Improvement

Corrections are not only a mechanism of accountability but also a tool for improving our editorial processes.

We systematically review errors to identify patterns, strengthen verification practices, and enhance the overall quality of our journalism.
